Off the Beaten Path
While Machu Picchu often takes centre stage, some of Peru’s most unforgettable experiences lie beyond the usual route.
We love arranging a spectacular Andean trek that veers away from the classic trails one that brings you to a rarely seen side of the Rainbow Mountains, approached from a remote direction that avoids the crowds. From there, the journey continues into the Red Valley, where vivid landscapes and traditional communities offer a deeper, more sacred connection to Peru’s highlands.
If trekking’s not your thing, there are still plenty of lesser-known gems to explore. The Sacred Valley, while increasingly popular, still holds pockets of peace, we can guide you to tranquil villages, vibrant markets, and artisans’ homes most visitors never see. Or consider a few days in Arequipa, Peru’s “White City”, with its volcanic backdrop and beautiful colonial architecture.
Whether you’re walking ancient paths or sipping pisco in a quiet plaza, we’ll help you see the side of Peru most travellers miss.
Cuisine & Culture
Peruvian cuisine is an experience in itself, renowned for its bold flavours and variety. From the famous ceviche (it really is amazing) made with freshly caught seafood to pisco sours served in charming local bars, food lovers will be in heaven. Enjoy traditional dishes like lomo saltado (stir-fried beef), alpaca steak, and the colourful causa (mashed potato with lime and avocado). The cuisine is a delicious blend of indigenous, Spanish, and Asian influences, making every meal a celebration of Peru’s rich cultural heritage.

Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Peru is during the dry season from May to September. This is ideal for trekking, particularly to Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain, when the weather is cooler and clear. The dry season also offers the perfect conditions for exploring the highlands and other outdoor activities. If you’re planning to explore the Amazon, the rainy season (November to April) can be a lovely time to see the lush rainforest come alive with vibrant flora and fauna, though it’s wetter and hotter during this period.
Our Top Tips
Take it slow in Cusco – Altitude hits everyone differently. Spend your first day wandering the cobbled streets, sipping coca tea, and soaking in the energy of the Plaza de Armas.
Catch sunrise at Machu Picchu – The early morning mist drifting through the peaks is pure magic and the crowds haven’t arrived yet.
Try the local flavours – Have a try of the street food: tamales, choclo with cheese, and sweet picarones are our favourites. And yes, the ceviche really is that good as is a pisco sour!
Keep a scarf handy – Temperatures swing wildly between sun and shade, especially in the Andes. Layers are a very good idea.
Bring small gifts – A few coloured pencils or postcards from your home country go a long way when meeting children in remote villages.
Regional Highlight: Ecuador & The Galápagos
For those wanting to explore further, Ecuador pairs beautifully with Peru. From the colonial charm of Quito to the dramatic peaks of the Andes, or even the iconic wildlife of the Galápagos Islands, it offers a contrasting yet complementary experience.
